Dear Marching Band Families,

I couldn’t be more excited to share that we have been given permission to start practices for a very different, shorter, but a valuable experience, season! With the gracious approval of Dr. DeFalco, our season will begin Thursday, September 17th for most marching band students.

In cooperation with Dr. DeFalco, Mr. Ehrenworth, and nurse Karen Young, the district’s lead nurse, we have created a safety plan that follows CDC guidelines, as well as state and DESE regulations, and have attached it to this document.  We are confident that while our practices will look different for students, they will still give kids a chance to make music and participate in an excellent, fun team again.

Because practices are limited to 50 people at this time (subject to change as state regulations change), it is important that we schedule practices carefully. Please fill out the attached google form so we know how many students in total to expect for the season.

Also, please be advised that we will not have any in-person competitions this season. We will learn a short show and share a video for parent enjoyment and virtual judging review but, for issues of safety, there will be no traveling or competitions.

We are extremely fortunate to have parents who are also nurses. Our BMMA President, Lisa Gervais, will be the primary nurse and will be checking students in, doing temperature checks, and health screenings at each rehearsal. Please do not hesitate to reach out to her if you have any questions at: [email protected]

Please also understand that if you are not comfortable with your child participating in marching band this year, they will always keep their spot with our band and can return next year.

To fully understand what rehearsals and procedures will look like, please review the safety plan.

Do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns!

Sincerely,

Todd Shafer
